Guys Who Care North Simcoe held their 2023 Fall Meeting on October 23rd and blew the doors off anything they had done before. In a very short campaign outside of their regular fundraising efforts, the Guys responded with outstanding generosity to a $20,000 matching gauntlet thrown down by Mike Thor and James Layter. “We wanted to do something special for GBGH to give the MRI campaign a boost, and still be able to support another deserving charity in October,” said Mike Thor, one of the founders of the Guys organization..“James Layter and I decided to challenge the Guys by offering a joint match gift [$10,000 each, up to a total of $20,000] for all donations before our meeting on the 23rd.”

The result was a cheque to GBGH Foundation for $46,000 presented at the event. “Given the importance of bringing an MRI to GBGH, we are thrilled to receive this gift from the Guys Who Care in North Simcoe,” Matthew Lawson, President and CEO, GBGH told the meeting. “We have been overwhelmed with support from this community. It has been going faster than anticipated, which has allowed us to continue to move at a rapid pace in getting this expansion built and MRI up and going.”

In regular business, pitches were made for three local worthwhile causes. In the end, Maison Rosewood Shelter won the vote. The Shelter suffered a devastating sewage backup during the summer which impacted the entire lower floor and rendered much of it unusable. The Guys have now made a grant of $18,000 to pay for much of the desperately needed remediation work at the very busy shelter. This is the second time the shelter has received funds from the Guys. Just over two years ago their dilapidated fencing was replaced through a Guys grant and sufficient was left over to install children’s playground equipment.

Guys Who Care North Simcoe are delighted to pass $364,000 in total giving with these donations. Guys Who Care have now been in existence for 8 years and in that time have made significant donations to 13 local charities. The Guys organization has no overheads and every single dollar raised goes directly to the beneficiary charities.
