The Guesthouse Shelter

The Guesthouse services the Municipalities of Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay.  They opened their doors in 2004 as Out of the Cold and with volunteers and donations alone, successfully supported the homeless supplying temporary shelter and food keeping them safe under any weather conditions.

In 2012, Out of the Cold became a year around operation and in 2013 they became a registered charity and changed their name to The Guesthouse.

In December of 2014, with donations, they purchased the three story commercial building at 522 Elizabeth St. in Midland. Thoughtful planning and renovations are creating ample space for 17 beds, a dining room, a commercial kitchen and a Community Services Centre.  The new shelter will be an informal gathering place, a venue for local partners to initiate just-in-time-solutions relating to general health, mental health, addictions counselling, literacy, employment, permanent housing and so on.

In October 2016, The Guesthouse of Midland was informed of the $17,000 donation and they were completely overwhelmed at the generosity of this group of men.  This donation came at an import time for their organization as they support many individuals within the community and were preparing the opening of a new center.

In October 2022, GWC had the pleasure of choosing the Guesthouse of Midland again, and again the donation amount was $17,000.
